Lie – It’s your fault you were abused.
Truth – Abuse is
NEVER the fault of the abused! It is not your fault that your abuser chose not to
control themselves and decided to harm you.
Lie – I should have done more to stop
the abuse or prevent it.
Truth – Things can often be replayed in
our minds over and over and we try to play the “what if” game. It is very
common for abuse victims to “freeze” because they are scared and then blame
themselves because they should have fought harder. Please don’t do this! It
won’t change anything, except for making your grief more unbearable!
